Project Proposal
Answer these FIVE questions and be ready to post them on your homepage during this week’s block period:
- What I will be reading and focusing for the historical aspect of my assignment? I’m going to be learning about the Vietnam War. I will be looking at the effects of the draft, the protests, and social conflicts throughout the war.
- What evidence of social injustice, tolerance, and propaganda will I look at? How does it relate to my studies of the Holocaust? I’m going to look at the questionable decisions made by the US during the Vietnam War, and how they justified their actions to US citizens. It relates to my studies of the Holocaust because if the US had not intervened, communism might have spread throughout Asia and possibly give people similar to Hitler power which could start another Holocaust. Another way it relates is that the US was deceiving their citizens and used exaggerated claims to recruit soldiers.
- Who are you highlighting as an everyday hero? For what reasons? I’m highlighting the Group called VietNow, they work to help homeless veterans-- many from Vietnam, get housing and food in their mouths.
- What will be your service learning project and how will it fill the 6 hour requirement?
- What is your literary assignment in terms of reading and focus? I will be reading “The Things They Carried;” this book is a collection of short stories about the Vietnam War and is part fiction and part non-fiction, the author however does not clarify what is true or what is not.
